Sept. 24 to be largest outpouring of antiwar sentiment since invasion

August 29, 2005

The ANSWER Coalition is the organization that has assumed full responsibility for the costs of the stage, sound, and setup at the joint rally, which will begin at the White House (Ellipse) at 11:30 AM on September 24. The cost will be in the many tens of thousands of dollars.

Please help A.N.S.W.E.R. meet these and other large expenses by clicking here to donate.

Unfolding developments over the past several weeks have made it clear that the September 24th demonstrations in Washington DC, San Francisco and Los Angeles have the potential to be the largest outpourings of anti-war sentiment since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The anti-war movement is gaining momentum daily, and successful mass mobilization on Sept. 24 can be the key element in transforming that momentum into a powerful political force.

We need your support to make the united September 24 demonstration the kind of challenge that the warmakers cannot ignore or brush aside. We must raise tens of thousands of dollars to pay for sound, stage, banners, placards, ads, flyers, postage, phone, rent and other expenses between now and Sept. 24. Many of you have contributed generously in the past. If you have donated before, we ask you to consider donating again. If you have never donated, please make a contribution now.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition issued its call on May 12 for mass, unified anti-war protests on Sept. 24 under the main slogans, “Stop the War on Iraq,” and “End Colonial Occupation from Iraq to Palestine to Haiti and Everywhere.”

By early May, popular sentiment was already shifting more strongly than ever against both the war and the Bush administration. That shift has accelerated as the death toll on both sides has continued to climb in a war sold to the U.S. public through lies and deception.

The courageous stand taken by Cindy Sheehan and other military family members and veterans at “Camp Casey” outside Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, has created a public relations disaster for the president and spurred a huge new wave of local protests across the country. Cindy Sheehan has announced that she will leave Crawford on Sept. 1 for a national bus tour culminating in Washington on Sept. 24, where she will be a featured speaker.

In hundreds of cities, towns and campuses, organizing is well underway for Sept. 24. Go to the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition website for more information, or to download flyers. If you can become a contact person in your community to help organize transportation, let us know.

We need to see hundreds of thousands of people marching in the streets against war, occupation and oppression. Only the massive intervention of the people in the political process can bring about the change we need. We can do it on September 24 with your help and support. Please take a moment to make a much needed donation today, by clicking here
