Today on the third year of the US war and occupation of Iraq, The Alliance for A Just and Lasting Peace in the Philippines (AJLPP) member of the Steering Committee of the International ANSWER, expresses our solidarity with all the people of the world in opposing the US war against terror against the people of Philippines, Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere.
Today, in the Philippines—the US puppet Gloria Macapagal Arroyo have imposed an undeclared martial rule all over the land. She has ordered the arrest of hundreds of individuals including the Chief Consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDF) Prof. Jose Ma. Sison, the chief negotiator of the NDF Luis Jalandoni, members of the NDF negotiating panel, six party list representatives of people’s organizations in the Philippine Congress and everybody who opposes her tyrannical rule.
With the creeping of martial law, Arroyo unleashed a reign of terror that systematically destroys civil liberties, make a mockery of laws, silences the opposition and killed more than 250 people since 2001. The Philippines is now experiencing the state of fascism worst than that of the US-Marcos dictatorship. Military death squads kill with impunity activists, organizers, journalist, workers, professionals and others with whom they accuse as communists and/ or communist sympathizers. People who demand peace and justice are branded are banded as communist or terrorists.
The United States support the Arroyo coup d tat against the people because it supports its war on terror, the change in the 1987 constitution to let the United State have an unhampered exploitation and control over its natural resources like what it is doing to Iraq that has the second largest oil reserves on earth. It has been targeted for destruction by the imperialists because the Iraqi people dared to nationalize their oil and other natural resources.
The US has declared Prof. Jose Ma. Sison as “terrorist” and the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army as Foreign Terrorist Organizations thus sabotaging the peace talks that has been ongoing for the last ten years. At present, the US puppet Arroyo have derailed the peace talks by ordering the arrests of the main personalities of the NDFP and plunged the Philippines into the brink of civil war.
Particularly in the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, the US troops are directly involved in the military operations against the Moro people on the guise of training the mercenary Armed Forces of the Philippine against the Abu Sayyaf and elements of the Jemaah Islamiyah, both organizations alleged to be linked with Al Qaida. But nothing can be farthest away from the truth: the US troops supports the Arroyo regime because of Arroyo’s doggedness to change the constitution to pave the way for the US unhampered exploitation and control over the country’s natural resources like what is happening in Iraq. .
