Press Release

“A New U.S. Policy Needed to Secure a Just and Lasting Peace”

The Press Conference on Weds. July 30th will feature presentations from the leaders of a new national coalition that will be sponsoring the largest rally yet in Washington D.C. on Saturday August 2 to demand an end to the bombing, invasion and ongoing siege of Gaza by the Israeli military. People are coming from all over the country by buses and car caravans. The August 2 demonstration will begin at 1pm at the White House. The marchers will be carrying symbolic coffins wrapped in the Palestinian flag to represent the more than 1,000 Gazans who have died since the recent conflict began. Thousands more have been wounded and huge swaths of Gaza are in ruins from Israeli bombs and missiles. The coalition is calling for an end to U.S. aid to Israel which it argues is tantamount to complicity in the commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity and which permits the Israeli authorities to maintain the ironclad siege of Gaza that has lasted now for eigt years.

Speakers at the July 30 Press Conference include:

Osama Abuirshaid, American Muslims for Palestine, National Coordinator

Mahdi Bray,  American Muslim Alliance, National Director,

Nihad Awad, CAIR (Council of American-Islamic Relations), Executive Director

Nieem Beg, Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), President

Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, Executive Director

Brian Becker, ANSWER Coalition, National Director

The Press Conference will begin promptly at 9:30 am
