Hundreds of protesters in Madison stood together on Feb. 27 and defeated a government attempt to end the student and worker occupation of the capitol building.
Protests in Madison, Wis., have entered their second week as workers and students show no sign of backing down. Demonstrators are fighting against a legislative effort to do away with collective bargaining rights for public-sector workers.
Daily demonstrations in Madison, Wis., began their second week today. Thousands gathered for a rally outside the State Capitol as the demonstrations inside the building continued. ANSWER coalition volunteer Austin Thompson reports from the scene.
Today is the without a doubt the biggest day of demonstrations yet since workers and students took to the streets a week ago to protest Gov. Scott Walker’s assault on the public sector’s collective bargaining rights.

We are writing to you as veterans and active duty troops, who are watching closely the growing protests in your state. Your governor, Scott Walker, is preparing to use you to smash the right of your family, friends and neighbors to peacefully demonstrate. There are two sides in this fight.
Brian Becker, national coordinator of the ANSWER Coalition, speaks on mass protests and strikes sweeping France in opposition to new austerity measures.
It was the biggest outpouring of union members and civil rights activists in decades as thousands of buses descended on Washington, D.C. to demand “jobs, education, and equality.”
The San Francisco Labor Council has just passed a resolution in support of Iraq war veteran and accused whistleblower Bradley Manning. This important development comes on the heels of a demonstration this past Sunday outside of the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia, where Manning is being held.
