Colombia

Colombia is the largest recipient of U.S. military aid in this hemisphere, having received $2.5 billion over the past four years. This money goes to Colombia's military, which has one of the worst human rights records in Latin America and works hand in glove with the right-wing paramilitary units responsible for the murder of unionists and peasant leaders.

Colombia is also the site of the hemisphere's longest-running civil war.

One campaign to expose the Colombian government is to publicize links between the Coca-Cola Corporation and death squad attacks against union members in Colombia's Coke bottling plant. Members of the SINALTRAINAL union have been assassinated and threatened for their union activity. Three out of every four union activists murdered in the world today are murdered in Colombia.

Millions around the world are refusing to drink Coke products until the company breaks its ties to the death squads.
