Israeli warplanes destroyed the key highway bridges in northern Lebanon today and struck and targeted other sites in south Beirut that “paralyzes” Lebanon’s key humanitarian pipeline. Reuters has just reported that Israeli war strikes against four bridges on the main coastal highway linking Beirut to Syria struck a humanitarian envoy carrying “150 tons of relief,” and cut what the United Nations called, “its umbilical cord for aid supplies.” The Israeli war planes are made and supplied by the United States.

Israeli air strikes this morning also killed at least 40 civilians in Lebanon, according to wire stories released at 1pm, EDT. Reuters reports that an air strike “hit a farm in Qua, close to the Syrian border in the Bekaa Valley where workers, mostly Syrian Kurds, were loading plums and peaches into trucks.” The report says, “Thirty-three people were killed and 20 wounded.”

The Lebanese government reports that between 800,000 and 1 million people have become refugees -- amounting to nearly one-fourth of the entire population.

Israel’s war against the people of Palestine and Lebanon is an integral component of Bush’s overall strategy towards Palestine and Lebanon. It must be considered a joint U.S.-Israeli war against the people. The goal, similar to the real objectives in Iraq, is to incorporate Lebanon into a U.S. sphere of influence. The danger of a wider regional war including Syria and Iran grows with each passing day. Meanwhile, the carnage in Iraq, caused by the illegal war of aggression, is also increasing with a staggering rise in the daily death toll.

August 12 March on Washington

Tens of thousands of people will be marching on the White House next Saturday, August 12th, in the largest national demonstration since the recent conflict in Lebanon and Gaza began. Buses and car caravans are coming from thirty states.

Funds are urgently needed. Please make a donation today. We have received a tremendous response to our appeal for funds to help cover the expenses of the August 12 mobilization, but we urgently need to raise more in the next few days. The enormous cost of sound, stage, port a johns, transportation, printing of posters, placards, leaflets, and all the other elements for a mass demonstration, must be paid now.

Hundreds of volunteers are working night and day to make this demonstration a success. If you cannot be a volunteer, but would like to make a contribution with a donation, it is greatly needed and much appreciated. Please click here to make your donation.
