Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez must be held accountable for the Chicago Police Department's reign of terror. The murder of Laquan McDonald by police officer Jason Van Dyke is yet another tragic and outrageous example of the CPD's unrelenting racism. Laquan was shot 16 times, 14 when he was laying on the ground. As the recently released video shows, he posed no imminent threat to anyone's life. 

While the growing movement against police brutality has resulted in murder charges being filed against Van Dyke, those at the top of the system should not be allowed to escape justice. Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez must be criminally charged in connection with the murder of Laquan McDonald as well as a whole host of CPD atrocities.
