The terrorist attack in Charlottesville that took the life of Heather Heyer has reignited the struggle to take down monuments to slavery, white supremacy and hatred around the country. Join us as we demand the removal of the Confederate monument from the lawn of the Manatee County Courthouse.

In Charlottesville, Virginia, it was the removal of a monument to Robert E. Lee that brought hundreds of Nazis, Klansmen and white supremacists with torches to the University of Virginia campus. They marched alongside Alex Fields, Jr., a fellow Nazi, who plowed his car through peaceful anti-fascist demonstrators on Saturday.

Manatee County cannot claim to provide equal rights to its citizens while having a statue honoring Robert E. Lee and men who fought for slavery on its courthouse lawn. Racism runs far deeper than these symbols, however their removal is an important step in the fight against white supremacy in America.
