The ANSWER Coalition condemns the latest acts of aggression carried out by the Trump administration against Afghanistan, the latest in nearly four decades of U.S. intervention in the country carried out by both Democratic and Republican administrations. This includes an ongoing military occupation that is approaching its 17th year.

The U.S. military last week dropped the Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb on Afghanistan. The MOAB is a weapon of mass destruction, the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal. Contrary to the Trump administration's lies about the MOAB being necessary to destroy ISIS tunnels, it is not an earth-penetrating munition and serves no purpose other than to sow terror by incinerating all life in its blast radius. Its use was a monstrous crime against the people of Afghanistan.

In February, General John W. Nicholson, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, called for "a few thousand" more U.S. troops to be deployed to the country. The ANSWER Coalition will be vigilant in the coming weeks and months to mobilize in response to any major escalation of the U.S. war on Afghanistan.
