Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro addresses the pro-government demonstration in Caracas, Venezuela

Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets on April 19 to defend the government of Nicolas Maduro and in response to efforts by the right wing to overthrow the country's Bolivarian Revolution. April 19 is also Venezuela's independence day, and the mobilizations took on an anti-imperialist message in defiance of blatant U.S. interference and disrespect for Venezuela's sovereignty. The United States and its allies have been attempting to isolate Venezuela and have provided both political and material support to the country's right wing opposition.

The opposition provoked deadly violence on the 19th, but failed in their efforts to stage a coup. However, their U.S.-sponsored destabilization campaign, including an economic war aimed at causing scarcity and inflation, continue.

In solidarity with these mobilizations, the ANSWER Coalition mobilized over the past week as the danger of a right-wing coup loomed. The corporate media has manipulated the public perception of Venezuela in preparation for a regime change operation. The ANSWER Coalition will continue to stand in solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution.
